Nearly 30 years after its Broadway debut, Disney's The Lion King returns to Brisbane's Lyric Theatre, blending Disney's original film with direction by Julie Taymor, the first woman to win a Tony for Best Director of a Musical. The production brings together Australian, New Zealand, and international performers, alongside Elton John and Tim Rice's score. With a record of sold-out seasons, including a 2014 Brisbane run that broke single-day sales records, The Lion King remains the second-highest-selling show in QPAC's history. This marks the third time Disney's The Lion King has played in Australia.

Storyline

Simba, a young lion cub destined to rule the Pride Lands, loses his father, King Mufasa, in a tragedy engineered by his scheming uncle, Scar. Believing himself responsible, Simba flees into exile, leaving Scar to seize the throne. Years later, an encounter with his childhood friend Nala forces him to confront everything he ran from. Can Simba find the courage to reclaim his place as king?
